We went up to Crane Mountain yesterday, and I was able to get some nice pictures. It’s so pretty up there this time of year.

Meet Arnold

August 6, 2008 at 12:28 pm (Hannah's Little Blog, Nature, Pictures)

Folks, say hello to my new friend, Arnold. Anna Takahashi named him, since we met at her vacation rental. As much as I loved him, I think he needed some counselling on his over-use of Dippity-Do. He was a bit shy around the camera, so the pictures are kind of crumby.

He was pretty fast, so the focus was an issue.

Every time I poked him, he curled up in a little ball and looked so cute!

I loved looking at the funny hair that grew on his head and tail. Quite fascinating.

Poor Arnold got tired of me poking him, so he crawled off my hand and fell between the boards on the porch. Wherever you are Arnold, I love you!

Covet Central

July 23, 2008 at 9:08 am (Hannah's Little Blog, Pictures)

Hello there girlies! (and- um- others) For lack of a priest, I must confess to you one of my weaknesses. Or maybe I just want company while I swoon over pretty dresses. I’m now going to show you some of the goodies I have discovered recently.

On recommendation from my friend, Mrs. Mallery, I went to April Cornell’s place and found the most wonderful blouses and nighties. My favorite: (although it’s really impossible to choose)

Also, if you are in the mood for Titanic-era tea dresses, there is the lovely collection from Nataya. Some of their stuff is frankly, skimpy, and the models look like retrievals from the morgue, but the tea dresses are so pretty! I love the layers of beautiful embroidery.

The Peruvian Connection is not for serious inquiries, unless you are the type who regularly spends $398 on one item. My pick: the sketchbook dress

Last, but not least, a cute pair of Baroque-ish lace shoes from Fluevog:

But godliness with contentment is great gain.

Pretty as….well, you know.

“Summer time, and the livin’ is easy…”

Yeah, I know, Gershwin is a little- uh- out there, but I think it encapsulates the general feeling this beautiful weather evokes. I have been taking a lot of bike rides with Megan, and my cousin Rachel. We always go about 4 miles up Foothills road, and we usually end up visiting (or is that harrassing?) the ever-patient Underhill family. Mr. Underhill gave me a kombucha mushroom, and that is really neat. Anyway, here is a picture of one of the recent fiascos.

Birdies

July 15, 2008 at 9:32 am (Hannah's Little Blog, Pictures)

Here is a picture of our neighbors. Ugly, aren’t they? Oh well, they grow out of it.

The bluebirds built their nest in our birdhouse, which is right next to the hammock. So….I can go and completely bliss out, swaying to and fro, watching pretty birds, enjoying my view of the mountains, chewing through some lit, and having fun in the general morning atmosphere. *yawn* I guess that’s why they call these the lazy days of summer.

Sweet Relatives

July 3, 2008 at 5:48 pm (Hannah's Little Blog, Pictures)

I love this picture, although it’s not what it seems. The young man is my grandfather, and the girl is his cousin. Just one of the many treasures I have unearthed since I started scanning negatives, it is pretty cute. (if I do say so myself)

Color Pop

July 1, 2008 at 6:04 pm (Doings, Hannah's Little Blog, Pictures)

This is my long-awaited fruity skirt. I have learned that I hate sewing godets with flat-felled seams, and that I love doing pockets. Other than that, it was a nice lesson in patience and unusual color combos. It swirls quite satisfactorily, and works very well for bike riding.

Special thanks to my headless twin, who graciously modeled in my stead.

*Sniff* AAHHHH….

June 25, 2008 at 9:24 am (Hannah's Little Blog, Nature, Pictures)

Don’t you just love chamomile? Isn’t it marvelous how it grows everywhere? And it smells so…heavenly. There is an older lady from our former church who taught me how to crochet, and she is an encyclopedia of gardening and nature knowledge. When we walk through her woods, she can name every moss, grass, bloom, and weed. Mrs. Coverdell has told us about how her German family left Russia to have freedom in America. She said that they brought with them chamomile seeds, or kamile (kah-mee-lay) in the German/Russian dialect. She grows descendants of those very same European chamomile plants, and she says she will give us seeds too! Chamomile makes the best tea, and it’s so good on chilly winter days. (or when I have the flu) These pretty and  useful herbs are a beautiful reminder of how God wants His children to be healthy, and to take joy in in His glorious creation!

Shoes!

June 23, 2008 at 11:20 am (Hannah's Little Blog, Pictures)

My favorite shoes are the ones I own, but until I learn how to model and take pictures at the same time, I’ll just post my wish list.

Very cute Mary Janes with just enough Western stitching to be taken seriously. Nice tread too.

Granny boots, for those days when I wish I was in an Alcott novel. Or for when I just want to be a cranky old lady.

The “let’s do something fun and kind of naughty” shoes. Let’s climb on rocks, run around in the woods, and throw pebbles. Then walk down the lane, petting people’s horses and bugging their dogs.

To me, these have “fun” written all over. How about a trip to the farmer’s market? Or maybe a cherry orchard.

AAHHH….so soft and comfy. Clogs are perfect for when you could use a foot massage, but don’t want to forfeit your dignity for bliss. The tassels add a nice New Mexican flare.

Feeling Danish? The perfect complement for this pair would be either stripey tights, or nice wooley leg-warmers.  Oh, and a cup of coffee.

This concludes our shoe-drool tour for today. Perhaps I will have something of more substance to post later. Maybe I can post pix of my own shoes, then things would be really exciting.

A Short Man is Hard to Find

June 16, 2008 at 11:11 am (Hannah's Little Blog, Pictures)

If you haven’t read Flannery O’Connor, just forget trying to fully understand my title.

In this world/country/state/town, there are plenty of guys who are lacking in the height department, but the vast majority of them still have me by a few inches. To find a fellow who is shorter than I am is a task. Guess what? I found one.

Say hello to my great-grandfather, Ernest Vestal. (we all call him Pop) I am actually a wee bit taller than he is! Of course, he is 88…
